i say try out both and see which one you like better. I generally prefer sword but when im in the mood axe is still lots of fun, i use axe more for farming then i do sword too.
Anyway, if your low on cash just choose the one that you alrdy have more skills unlocked in until you get money to buy more skills then explore the new skills.
gl and hf!

If one is "better" suited to PvE it would be by a very small and unimportant amount. It is easy enough to go through Prophecies as either one. There are enough skills available to both to make effective builds. So, it really comes down to personal choice - just like the armor.

For general pve with hero hench and access to all campaigns sword is better for d-slash, however axe is still good and is fun. I wouldnt necessarily say there is no best, I would say that some individual situations make a different one better.

One of the problems with trying to say what's "best" is trying to determine just what you mean by "best"? Best in what way?
Anyway, no matter what you mean, there may actually be a "best", but when it comes down to something as simple as using a sword vs an axe to do Prophecies, it just doesn't matter - pick one.

This has what to do with the topic? (And yes it's bad, but that's a debate for the Warrior forum and not a thread that has nothing to do with hammers)
In PvE? I'd go with a Sword. Dragon Slash is oh-so godly, fueling "Save Yourselves!", Brawling Headbutt and plenty of other skills. Cleave also comes into this equation, but Dragon Slash is better when it comes to PvE in my opinion.
In PvP? Axe. Eviscerate is very, very godly in that scenario. Shock Axe is <3. Cripslash is pretty good itself though through stronger field control.

Dragon Slash and Save Yourselves are Factions. Without Factions I can't legitimately choose sword over axe. Also, my personal preference is just axe in general, far more fun to play IMO.

Dwarven Battle Stance is the equivalent of dazing an enemy, except worst because you're using the slowest weapon in the game.

Without the ability to use any other skill.
Anyways, the best thing about sword is dragon slash, but you don't have that. Hundred blades and crippling slash are pretty lame, and your other choices aren't the greatest either. I'd definitely go with axe...or hammer, or scythe (warrior's endurance ownzzzz).

my W/R carries the sword, and my W/Mo carries the axe, i use Triple Chop and Whirlwind Attack with the axe and finish up with Executioner's Strike. With the Sword it varies as much as i like Thousand Blades, Dragons Slash is very useful for adrenaline gain especially when "For Great Justice" is up, i can spam DS over and over again until FGJ runs out then still Sun Moon Slash and Standing Slash are still charged with Drunken Master still in effect.

Axe:
-Higher base DPS
-Triple chop: wins DPS in PvE
-Evis: undisputed king of PvP
I think the best answer is pretty obvious...

I thought swords had higher base dps since they have the higher minimum damage?
In any case, with Prophesies only, Axe is the way to go. [as said, without dragon slash, swords are kinda meh*]
And I think deep wound is definitely necessary for an axe user in any scenario. [or any weapon user for that matter]
Why would anyone 'give up' free 20% max hp armor ignoring dmg? [of course, at max it's 100 dmg but still, that's a lot of dmg]
D-slashers say otherwise, but deep wounds are usually for spiking, which I think is my best way to play....

I thought sword was the higher base DPS, axe the higher average. Lotus, he doesn't have factions so no triple chop.
Anyways, you don't really need any of the warrior elites for NM because as long as you have an IAS, you are fine most of the time. So I say go with what you like the most.

Sword does have higher base DPS, but without factions, you'll end up doing more damage on axe. Besides, hundred blades and crippling slash aren't that great for PvE.

100 blades might be interesting to play around with in PvE if you had another player to keep hammer of the great dwarf on you.

I would probably say axes at this point. My reasoning is quite simple. I have been playing since the release of GW several years ago. My first character was a sword warrior and he rocked up until they nerfed sword warriors. I now do around 8~12 damage to your average lv20 mob, whereas it was around 22~25 pre-nerf. This is with a max damage fellblade and both strength and swordsmanship pegged out.
Now, I just recently got some nice axes (charr axe, Murakai's Reaver) and have been playing with them, and I can say that I do more burst damage and take mobs down much faster. Not only that, but using cyclone axe and whirlwind attack makes for some pretty heavy healing if you're using skills like live vicariously! In fact, I had dropped by to see about good axe builds when I noticed your thread and thought I'd throw in my two cents.
I'd recommend axe for Prophecies PvE, and as it has been stated before, any armor will do. Back in my warrior's time, the armor WAS different (I have the original "Knights Cuirass" and such) and offered different protections, but now they all offer the same basic protection, and you use runes and insignias to set the extra protections and buffs.

As Bobby said, scythe warrior. You'll do a shit load more damage, and you don't necessarily need factions for it.
